Here the pine forest dictates everything. Trees are the leading cause of brief dropouts in satellite installations, and in Guardamar they have to be taken into account from the very start.

Guardamar has one feature that sets it apart from almost any other town on this coast: the pine forest. That Aleppo pine woodland, planted more than a century ago to hold the dunes in place, is the town's defining feature — and also the main technical complication when it comes to installing satellite internet.
Starlink needs constant contact with low-orbit satellites that cross the sky from one side to the other. Seeing a patch of sky is not enough: the dish has to track them as they move, which is why it needs a wide, unobstructed view.
A pine canopy does not block the signal all the time. It blocks it at the precise moment the active satellite passes behind it. The result is dropouts lasting a few seconds, intermittent and apparently random: the video call freezes, the connection returns, and ten minutes later it happens again. People end up believing the service is poor when the real problem is where the dish was mounted.
Two factors make this worse here. The first is that trees grow: a position that is marginal today will stop working in three years. The second is that much of the woodland in the pine forest is protected, so pruning is not always a legal option. That is why the sky survey here is not a formality: it is what determines whether the installation will work at all.
🌳 What we do when there are trees
We measure the actual obstruction from several candidate positions on the plot and choose the one with the greatest margin, allowing for future growth. If extra height is needed, we propose a mast rather than asking you to fell anything. And if no viable position gives a reliable result, we tell you before charging for an installation.
Inland the picture changes completely. Between Guardamar, Rojales and Almoradí lies the farmland of the Vega Baja: agricultural plots, country houses and holdings well away from the town centre, where running a fixed line is expensive or simply not viable.
This is where Starlink genuinely comes into its own, and where there is usually an additional requirement: keeping an eye on the property when nobody is there. Cameras, irrigation control, tank sensors. All of it requires being able to connect from outside, and that is where CGNAT gets in the way — Starlink does not provide a public IP, so by default you will not be able to reach any of it remotely. Guardamar is strongly seasonal, and there are sites — campsites, beach businesses, holiday accommodation — that need real capacity in summer and very little the rest of the year. In those cases it pays to size things properly from the outset: serving a single home is nothing like serving dozens of simultaneous users, and at that point the conversation stops being about the dish alone and becomes about the network hanging off it.
We are in Torrevieja, a good fifteen minutes away on the N-332, so Guardamar falls within our rapid-response area: normally the same day or the next.
It depends how much clear sky they leave and from which point on the plot. Not every case involving trees is hopeless: often it is enough to move the dish a few metres or gain height with a mast. What you cannot do is judge it by eye, which is why we carry out an obstruction survey before quoting. If there is no position we can vouch for, we say so and we do not install.
We always try to avoid it, and in Guardamar all the more so: much of the pine woodland is protected and pruning is not always legal. Our first option is to find another position or gain height with a mast. If pruning were still the only solution, we would put it to you so that you can check whether you have permission — we never assume it.
That is the classic symptom of a partial obstruction. A tree or other object covers one specific band of sky, and the connection only drops at the moment the active satellite passes behind it. That is why it seems random. It is diagnosed by measuring the obstruction from the mounting point, and it is almost always fixed by repositioning the dish.
Yes — that is precisely the scenario where Starlink makes most sense: plots far from the town centre where running a fixed line is expensive or unviable. If you also need cameras or irrigation control reachable from outside, a fixed public IP has to be added, because Starlink does not provide one by default.
